In our second video for the Hexagon series Deep Sky produced with étage, we encountered a new challenge to add to the already demanding task of interpreting complex and poetic messaging into unique illustrative visuals that stayed cohesive with the existing brand.
Geospatial required more animators, which meant more artistic styles to work with, so keeping the animators consistent with motion design was one of the biggest hurdles. While the animation appears simplistic, a lot of time and thoughtful creativity went into fine-tuning the designs and the movements so that they gracefully flowed along with the script and literally represented the video’s theme (the “point” to shaping smart change). All assets were built from scratch and the timing down the frame was critical.
The concepts and storyboards took three weeks to fully develop, with continued back and forth with the client until they were absolutely perfect and clearly reflected the values and mission of the department. Along with design, editing and animation, we worked closely with the narrator and composer to make sure timing, emphasis, and flow were perfectly executed. Additionally, we provided a campaign of vector illustrations to Hexagon for each key scene in the video.
