Senior Art Director

Deep Sky is seeking a “hands-on” Art Director with strong ideation and conceptual abilities to join our team in Portland, Oregon. We are searching for someone who can easily transmogrify detailed marketing messages and complex tech briefs into compelling visuals for video, social media, and other deliverables across events, broadcast, and digital channels.

Candidate must be detail-oriented, have a keen eye for great design, create characters, and give solid direction for both 2D and 3D visuals. This position requires direct interactions with our clients, so presentation and interpersonal skills are a must. Please provide your portfolio demonstrating strong design in the following types of work: 2D/3D characters and design for animation, advertising, brand identity (a plus), motion graphics, and storyboards/layouts/key frames.

Primary Responsibilities:

Ability to concept and design from scratch based on a creative brief or brainstorming discussion, and lead the team with a clear vision
Pitch creative to clients and participate in collaborative work sessions, both internally and with clients; expected to participate as part of a team, or to produce a creative initiative from start to finish
Meet tight deadlines, deliver professional artwork that is engaging, innovative and adheres to design best practices and brand standards

The successful candidate will possess:

5+ years as a professional designer and at least two years working in an animation environment
Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and other industry standards. (After Effects, Cinema 4D, Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator, ect.)
Keeps current with the latest motion design videos and trends
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and thrive under tight deadlines
A strong work ethic and down-to-earth personality, coupled with a “whatever it takes” attitude
Brand identity, and UX experience a plus

Senior Motion Designer

Deep Sky is seeking a talented individual who lives / loves all things motion design. An artist who thrives in collaborative environments, feeds on inspirational work, and enjoys inspiring their team. Candidates will need to possess the skill sets to both design and execute complex motion graphics, combined with a positive personality when engaging with clients and collaborating with artists. The position requires being able to structure projects and take ownership from start to finish. Projects range from; music videos, explainers, broadcast packages, commercials, brand anthems, to toolkits.

Our ideal senior motion designer will be broadly a generalist, though we welcome applications from artists with extraordinary talent in storytelling, style frame creation, distinctive illustrative/design styles, and specialists in 2D animation. There’s opportunity to grow into a Lead Motion Designer who can direct our team of motion artists across a wide range of creative work.

We’re a fun collaborative team who values personality and a healthy working environment as much as creative ability and technical wizardry. We are looking for applicants that are both ambitious and keen to develop quickly, whilst maintaining a pragmatic, team-oriented approach, and being happy to chip in on any task needed. While we are slowly returning from working remotely, the position does not require to be in studio full-time, though it’s ideal to be in-studio several days a week. Remote out-of-state work to begin is an option.

Qualifications, Experience and Must-Have Skills:

4+ years motion graphic design and animation
Proficiency in After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator (Cinema 4D a plus)
Degree in related field of Art, Design, Marketing, or Visual Effects
Must be able to maintain a high level of accuracy and quality control consistently reviewing work to accomplish tasks with follow through to completion
Flexible, reliable and able to work both independently and as part of a team
